How to get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft Bedrock?

Lets Talk About Armadillo Scute

What Is an Armadillo Scute?

Armadillo Scute is an item dropped by the new mob Armadillo, selected in the 2023 Minecraft Mob Voting. It has a unique appearance, which has been explained in detail below.

Appearance of Armadillo

Armadillos have a very unique look compared to other mobs and are easy to recognize because of their armored body. You can identify an armadillo by:

  • They are small, four legged mobs that you will usually spot in the savanna or badlands biomes.
  • Their rounded shell is the most noticeable feature. It has brown and tan colors and looks segmented, almost like layered plates.
  • Armadillos are much smaller than cows and are closer in size to an axolotl, but longer and lower to the ground.
  • They have short legs tucked under the shell and a small, pointed snout at the front.
  • A thin, short tail sticks out from the back of the shell, completing their distinct appearance.

How to Get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft Bedrock?

Armadillos spawn naturally in a few dry biomes, so you will need to explore these areas to find them. They can be found in Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Wooded Badlands, Savannah, Savannah Plateau, and Windswept Savannah.

In savannah type biomes, they usually spawn in small groups of two to three, while in badlands biomes, they appear in smaller groups of one to two.

There are two main ways to collect Armadillo Scutes:

Using a Brush

One of the fastest ways to get armadillo scutes in Minecraft Bedrock is by using a Brush directly on an armadillo. This is an active method and works much faster than waiting naturally.

First, find an armadillo in a savanna or badlands biome. Slowly approach it while crouching and place a boat nearby. Try to get the armadillo to sit inside the boat. Once it is in, brush it once, and you will get an armadillo scute. Make sure the armadillo is not rolled up, or brushing will not work.

The Brush has very low durability when used this way and breaks after 5 uses in Bedrock Edition, so this method is fast, but you will need 2 brushes for each wolf armour.

Naturally Dropping

You can also get the Armadillo Scutes by waiting near the Armadillo, which naturally drops them with a random delay of 5 to 10 minutes.

How to approach Armadillo

  • Walk slowly toward the armadillo. Running or sprinting will make it roll up immediately.
  • Do not approach while riding any mount, such as horses, donkeys, boats, or any other rideable mob.
  • Make sure there are no undead mobs nearby, like zombies, skeletons, husks, or strays, as armadillos will hide when they sense them.
  • Use a lead as soon as possible. Once on a lead, the armadillo will not roll up, even if you move quickly.
  • If you want to breed them, spider eyes can be used to make armadillos follow you when they are not rolled up.
