Do you want to get the Common Sense addon? Isn’t it great to have a touch of new features in the game besides the normal Minecraft Bedrock experience?
The Common Sense addon was created by Jerry, who also has an official channel with the username @JFAddons, where he uploads the changelogs of each version and any other compliment addons released.
This is a non-marketplace addon and is completely free. You can get it from Curseforge or MCPEDL.
What makes the Common Sense addon such a great addon?
This mod introduces a lot of new features in the game while also being achievement friendly. It is also compatible with actions & stuff, which is a very cool marketplace addon, enhancing animations and stuff.
View Changer
As you start your world with the common sense addon, one of the first things that you will be given is the view changer. You can basically tap on it and change your camera view and angle; it gives you the option to change up to 4 camera modes.
The first one is third person, the second is third person front, the third is shoulder view custom, which is just the third person view from the shoulderโs angle, and the last is the shoulder view (horse), which is just the shoulder view custom but from further back. You can just tap the view changer to switch between these modes.
View Changer Settings
If you tap on the view changer while crouching, you will get to see the My View Settings Menu with three options, which you can toggle on or off:
The first one is Give View Changer (onDeath), which basically does nothing but gives you a view changer if you die and respawn. You can also switch this option off if you want, because you can also craft the view changer with two sticks and a plank in between horizontally in the crafting table.
The second one is Auto Horse Camera, which will change the view to third person as you get close to a horse, which will stay the same while you ride it. It looks very cool, and if you dismount from the horse and get a little far, the view will revert to first person.
The Third one, the Auto Bow Camera, automatically changes the view to 1st person when you are holding a bow, regardless of any view you have selected in the view changer settings.
Lastly, there is the Camera Distance, which is the camera distance of the shoulder view custom. It is normally at 2, but can be changed as well.
Trinkets
Trinkets are exclusive items added in this addon, which can either be crafted or only found, such as in ruined portals, spawner chests, or pyramids. In Total, 6 of the Trinkets are introduced in this addon.
Some players might not like these because of itโs overpower abilities, so they can turn them off as well. To turn them OFF, or ON, simply go to world settings, then behaviour packs, and it will show you all of the addons you have installed. Now, click on the settings beside the common sense addon, where there will be an option of resolution trinkets with a bar; from here, you can switch trinkets on or off as you like.
Balloon
You can craft it with 4 papers, a wind charge, and a string. Having it in your main hand will give you levitation II and slowfalling II for a limited time, which may now be very helpful in singleplayer worlds, but is useful in multiplayer servers if one is in a PvP and has to escape for a bit to recharge.
Creaking Heart
This is a craftable item and can be crafted with 3 gold ingots, an Amethyst Shard, and a netherite block. If you crouch and activate this, it will give you 6 more hearts instantly, but for a limited time. Itโs a very cool and helpful exclusive.
Magic Mirror
This is also a non-craftable item, and you can find this item in ruined portals, pyramids, or in spawner chest structures, if the trinkets are enabled. Itโs basically a teleportation item, which teleports you to the spawn point you have set.
Skull
This is a non-craftable item, too. It is a wearable item, just like a helmet; it gives you fire resistance II when equipped. Can be found in bastions or by trading with piglins.
Miners Bless
This is a non-craftable trinket as well, and can be found in mineshafts. It simply gives you a mining haste effect.
Scuba Helmet
This is also a wearable, just like a helmet, and gives unlimited water breathing. You can craft it with a copper helmet, a glass piece, and the heart of the sea.
Common Sense Addon Settings
One of the items that is given at the start of the world with this addon is common sense settings. You can tap it to open the settings menu with several options.
Dynamic Light
When turned on, it will enhance the torches and lanterns; now the torches and lanterns will feel more natural, and light will spread over the blocks and move with your character. It just improved the gameplay experience.
Horses Break Leaves
If the option is turned on and youโre mounted on a horse and dash into a jungle and encounter blocks of leaves, the horse will break the leaves rather than getting stuck. This option currently does not work that well and needs some more optimization.
Moreover, this addon was released way before the mounts of mayhem update, so a feature that allowed the horses and camels to ride in the rivers without dismounting. However, a similar feature has now appeared officially in Mojangโs Mounts of Mayhem update
Campfire Heal Effect
If turned on and youโre near a campfire, you will get the regeneration effect; however, for this to work, the campfire should be lit. Moreover, it does not work on Soulcamp campfires.
No Hurt Pets (Owner Only)
This is a great addition, as sometimes youโre in a PvP or between a hell of mobs and you accidentally hit your pet. This option basically disables any damage done to pets, even if intended, however, only for the owner who tamed them.
No hurt pets (All Players)
This is a variation of the โNo Hurt Pets (Owner Only), which now does not allow damage to anyoneโs pet, which is quite helpful in multiplayer servers.
Auto Totem of Undying
I think this is the best feature introduced. Basically, if youโre dangerously low on health and it drops to 1.5 or less than 1.5 hearts, and you have a totem of undying in your hotbar, it would automatically shift to your off hand. This feature may not be liked by some players, so it can be toggled off as well.
However, this feature still needs work and isnโt perfect, and this does not work in situations of sudden damage like fall damage.
Better Off-hand
This is a great feature introduced; it basically helps you by shifting anything to offhand if double crouched, works with torches, shields, and any other stuff.
Moreover, if you have a torch or a lantern in your main hand, you can double crouch to move it to your off hand and vice versa. Or else if you have rockets in your main hand and a torch in your offhand, you can just replace them between your main hand and offhand by double crouching as well.
Update History of Common Sense Addon
Version 1.1
This addon was first released on May 19th, 2025. The first version released was 1.1, which introduced a lot of base features that slowly improved over time.
A new axolotl pet was added to the game, which was able to be tamed through bone. You can make them sit or stand to follow you, but still they would rush into water to now dehydrate and die. However, taming an axolotl would grant you a regeneration ability as well.
Camels were improved, too; now they had 18 inventory slots. Horses were also improved by giving them 9 inventory slots if a chest is equipped on it, which can be done by holding a chest and tapping it while aiming at the horse.
A new item was introduced as well, which is the Mount Horn. You can craft it very easily with two iron ingots and a goat horn. It is a cool item, as you can link it with your tamed animals, such as horses, camels, etc.
Once it is linked, you can be anywhere in the world and just tap on it to teleport your animal. In this version, it only worked with the loaded chunks, but in later updates, such as in 1.3 specifically, it was improved, after which it worked even if you are super far away. However, it does not work in other dimensions like Nether or The End.
Version 1.2
This update introduced the Better Off-hand feature, which basically shifts or replaces anything from your main hand to off-hand or vice versa if you double crouch.
Moreover, a new pet was introduced as well, which is the happy ghast. You can ride it with a saddle and heal it with snowballs. It was also given 15 inventory slots if a chest is equipped on it. It was also made compatible with the mount horn.
Version 1.3
In this update, the option to disable trinkets was added, which was a much-needed update, as many players did not like these items. Also, beforewards all trinkets had recipes, but after the update, only the creaking heart and the balloon were craftable, while others were now only to be found.
The inventory space of Donkeys & Mules was improved and got even higher than horses now, which makes them somewhat useful. As mentioned before, Mount Horn was improved by increasing the teleportation distance to unloaded chunks as well, so now you can be super far away and still teleport your animal near you.
A new system was introduced as well, which allowed you to uncraft your tools and weapons in the stone cutter and get your material back; however, it only gives a part of the materials back.
Version 1.4
This update improved the mounts by increasing the storage slots of horses, mules, and donkeys as they now had 9, 24, and 18 inventory slots, respectively.
Mount horns were made compatible with the multiplayer servers, so many players can use the feature in the same world.
Foxes were made tameable, and they can sit or stand to follow you. They can be tamed with bones, and if you attack a mob or player, the fox will attack for you if it has a sword in its mouth. It can be pretty simply done by dropping the sword in front of them. Also, they attack by leaping or dashing, increasing the damage significantly.
Speed controls of happy ghasts were introduced, which can be switched to normal speed or boosted speed by tapping a stick on the happy ghasts.
No Hurt Pets (Owner Only) was introduced as well, which has been explained here in detail. New dye recipes were introduced, such as brown by green and red dye, or red and yellow to get orange dye or or blue and yellow to get green dye.
Anvils were made repairable by iron ingots. You can do it by simply tapping iron ingots on anvils. One iron ingot would restore one stage of durability.
Version 1.5
As the new Copper Age update had been added officially by Mojang, the new copper torches and lanterns were made compatible with the dynamic lights feature.
Common Sense Settings were introduced to adjust and toggle the features. No hurt pets (All Players) was introduced as well.
Soul Lanterns were enhanced, before they gave night vision when in your inventory, but now they give the night vision effect only when you have it in your main hand or offhand.
A new recipe was added, which basically allowed you to smelt bamboo blocks into charcoal.
New 3d models were added for trinkets, the mount horn, and scuba helmets, which improved the experience a lot.
It was now able to heal the new copper golem with copper ingots, which is not possible in the official update. Moreover, the offhand system was improved; now you can boost your flight on Elytra with rockets in offhand, but there is a limitation by Mojang that you should have something held in your main hand as well.
Auto Totem of Undying was introduced, which has been explained in detail here.
Version 1.6
With this update, the View Changer was introduced, which has been explained in detail here. The Auto Bow Camera, the auto horse camera, were all introduced with this view changer feature.
This addon was made compatible with Spanish, Mexican Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Moreover, the copper horse armour recipe was added as well.
The stone cutter was made compatible with copper tools introduced in the new Copper Age Update!
The scuba helmet was improved as it now only activates when youโre in water and also received new textures.
Moreover, now it was possible to craft the ore blocks, which can be smelted directly in a furnace, such as an iron ore block to smelt iron blocks, which is pretty efficient.
The recipe of arrows was changed as well, as now you can craft arrows with iron as well which now gives you 4 more arrows when crafting. Moreover, the recipe for stairs was improved as now, rather than 6 planks, only 3 planks are needed to make 4 stairs.
The stone cutter is made compatible in this update with wood as well. You can craft wood items directly in a stone cutter rather than a crafting table, in which both logs and planks can be used as an input. Every different type of wood has different recipes.
Elytra was given a recipe to craft, which took two phantom wings and magma cream. And to craft each phantom wing, you need 4 phantom membranes and 3 popped chorus fruits.
New armour was added for foxes, and you can check its durability with a stick simply.
Dynamic lights were improved as well, as it now compatible with more items. Also, progression in light levels was introduced, which means that some items will light up a larger area than others, depending on their intensity level.
Better Off-hand feature has also been improved in this update; now, if you have an empty slot in your main hand, you can still double crouch and replace or shift items between offhand and main hand; however, another small tweak has been done as well. Now this feature will only work if you double crouch quickly, so that if the player intentionally double crouches, it does not shift or replace.
However, if you want to use this system while having enchanted tools in your main hand, it might not be a good idea, as the Minecraft script base does not allow you to do it, so you should definitely avoid it, or else your enchantment will get reversed.
Version 1.6.2 (Latest)
This small 1.6.2 update mainly focuses on bug fixes and a few minor improvements after some issues appeared in the previous version.
Several problems caused by recent Minecraft updates were fixed, especially related to horses not moving properly after dismounting. Zombified camels, zombie horses, and skeleton horses were also added to the mount horn system, and friendly fire for these mounts was disabled.
An issue with the off-hand feature that could cause item duplication or loss has now been fixed. Another reported bug, where the scuba helmet stopped working when swimming through plants, was also resolved.
A few improvements were made as well. The over-the-shoulder camera now feels smoother, and the dynamic lighting system was improved to run more consistently. New armor for the Nautilus mount was added, which can be found in chests or crafted, and can also be uncrafted using the stonecutter. Additionally, new spears were added to the uncrafting system.
Overall, this update is a small maintenance patch focused on fixing issues and polishing existing features.
